Air source heat pumps work according to the "reverse Carnot" principle, which is the principle of the reverse Carnot cycle. They operate through a compressor system that absorbs heat from the air to produce hot water. The specific process is as follows: the compressor compresses the refrigerant, raising the temperature of the refrigerant after compression, which then passes through the condenser in the water tank to produce hot water. The refrigerant, after heat exchange, returns to the compressor for the next cycle. During this process, heat from the air is absorbed by the evaporator and transferred into the refrigerant, which is then introduced into the water to generate hot water. This is a new generation of water heaters that use air to heat water, namely air source heat pump water heaters. Figuratively speaking, the "outdoor unit" compresses air like a pump, raising the air temperature, and then conducts heat to the indoor storage tank through a liquid that boils at -17°C, releasing the heat into the water.
Using the working principle of heat pumps for heating is the opposite of air conditioning for cooling—domestic cooling standards are 1000 watts, while electric cooling is 2800 watts. According to the principle of thermal balance, while generating 2800 watts of heat, plus the input of 1000 watts of electricity, the actual heat produced is between 3000 and 4000 watts. The electricity consumption for delivering this heat to the insulated water tank is only a quarter of that of electric water heaters (even if electric water heaters have 100% thermal efficiency, inputting 1000 watts of electricity only yields 1000 watts of heat).
